I first came across an ad for this protein bar a few months ago on Facebook. Living a busy working mom fit life, I choose to keep such products on hand for convenience and to help me avoid other forms of fast food when life gets tricky. Let me say that no “bar” is a substitute for whole healthy foods.
I was able to get some of the Glazed Donut bars (Thank you Julian Bakery!!) and as a girl who likes donuts, but doesn’t eat them regularly (anymore!), I was excited to try one.

Taste:
It did taste like a glazed donut! Now, surely going into eating a “paleo” protein bar, one cannot expect to taste identical to a yeasty sugar glazed donut. But it was definitely flavorful and enjoyable. I did not detect any awkward aftertaste. If I were to be out with my family at a donut shop and pull this bar out while they munched on the real deal I would be absolutely content with my healthy substitute.
Texture:
I’ve tried my fair share of protein bars and have come to expect most of them to be quite hard unless heated in the microwave for a few seconds. The Paleo Protein Bar is soft and could be considered a bit “chewy”, which I prefer.
Celeb-Endorsement:
I don’t know if you are familiar with Jorge Cruise, but let me tell you, he is one of my favorite celebrity trainers! I purchased his book YEARS before I ever lost the weight. He couldn’t make the decision to change for me though, and I took a little while to come around. He backs the Paleo Protein Bar, and he’s healthy, well rounded fitness professional.
The Bottom Line:
The Glazed Donut Paleo Protein Bar has a nutritional structure I can agree with. If needed, it would make a great breakfast on the run or post workout protein snack. The taste works for me. I would recommend this protein bar as a “treat” or “quick sub” for anyone following a lean protein based, paleo-ish meal plan.
